I admit it, I love my chickens. Recently I found myself driving down the highway with my dog in one seat and my chicken Bertha in the other. Both had to go to the vet and well in the car they went. Four months ago in Los Angeles this act would have had any one of my friends rolling on the ground with laughter. In fact I laughed at myself. However, every morning when it is cool outside I wake up, throw on some shoes and a sweater, walk out the aviary and let the chickens out of their coop to free range and I am filled with a sense of wonder and enjoy every time I see their happy little faces. Really chickens are awesome. They are fun loving, hilarious, silly, rambunctious, loveable and a hell of a good time. I will also admit that Berth is my favorite she is cocky but she really doesn’t mind when I want to pet her. If I hover my hand over her body she will flatten down to the ground and let me stroke her and surprisingly she is really soft. She is very patient with me and my need for chicken love.
